How To Break Into The Rewarding Career Of Golf Course Management

Golf course management is one of the most rewarding careers possible for anyone who loves the game of golf, and who genuinely wants other people to get the most satisfaction from it. It is a demanding career, as all rewarding ones are, and it is certainly not easy to break into, but it is possible if you are determined enough and prepared to work up to a management role in the right way. Anyone who is genuinely enthusiastic about the game will have a huge built in advantage, as the potential employer will be able to see this and know that you will do the best you can to serve people well.

If you have an ambition to work in golf, then it will help greatly if you can play the game. You don't need to be brilliant at it, but if you are an enthusiast it will help your cause. Try also to develop an interest in the actual golf course itself, and if possible ask questions of the people who are involved in preparing and maintaining the course. Take notes if you can, as one day you will be instructing people such as this if you are to become a manager.

If you are going to eventually become a golf course manager, then you will need an entry point into the industry. This could come from a variety of different sources. You can get a start by working in the golf shop, or by being a part of the ground staff. Your skills and experience will determine which is the best route to take. If you have no experience in area of running a golf course, then retail experience of any kind will help you. If you can prove you are good with customers, even ones who are buying totally unrelated products, this can only help you.

If you can go to college and get a formal qualification in management, that will help you even more, but it does demand a certain degree of sacrifice which not everyone will be able to make. Do bear in mind, though, that you can now take college courses online and work on them in your own home. Some of the most famous universities in the country offer online equivalents of their major courses, and these can be fitted in around your current schedule.

Once you have managed to break through the barrier, and obtained your first job at a golf course, then you can step up a gear. Do the best job you can and build up the best possible work record, but also take it upon yourself to get further qualifications. If you can do a management course part time, as well as your work for the course you are at, you should quickly emerge as a likely candidate for golf course management.
