What Are Some Of The Golf Digest Best 100 Courses?
Golf Digest is the most recognized and respected periodical about the sport of golf. This magazine covers current events in the golfing world as well as lots of different golf related topics. One of the top features provided by this magazine is the Golf Digest Best 100 Courses, which names what they deem to be the best 100 courses in the nation. Golfers everywhere respect the opinions of this magazine and turn to them when making a decision about which courses to visit. Here are five of the finest around the country as named by Golf Digest:
Pine Valley Golf Club in Clementon, New Jersey has been named the number one best golf course by Golf Digest on several occasions. The holes at this gorgeous course are considered world class, and for good reason. You'll find the course to be challenging and beautiful, well deserving of its top status. Pine Valley was founded in 1913, and although it is so highly ranked it has never hosted any major tournaments. If you want to play on a course that is considered the best of the best, Pine Valley is for you.
Then there's the Augusta National Golf Club, which ranks highly on the list on a consistent basis. This is the site of the Masters golf tournament and one of the most elite and prestigious courses found anywhere. If you've ever watched the Masters on television, then you've seen this incredible course. Each hole is associated with and named after a shrub or tree which blooms in the spring when the tournament is held. For example, the first hole is called the Tea Olive, the ninth hole is Carolina Cherry and the eighteenth hole is Holly.
Pebble Beach, California is another famous location for golf courses. There are two top-ranked courses in this area. Cypress Point Club features an incredible course that is challenging yet beautiful and incorporates the natural landscape in a creative way. Not only does the club offer the beautiful oceanside course, it also offers a variety of other benefits including a great pro shop. Then there's the Pebble Beach Golf Links. Since 1919, this course offers a great deal of natural beauty and incorporates the coastline into challenging holes.
Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania is another location featured on the Golf Digest Best 100 Courses list. The course here is a national landmark and is one of the most difficult in the nation. There are 180 deep bunkers and a variety of slick, sloping greens that are beautiful to behold and incredible to play. Oakmont, just like all of the courses on the Golf Digest list, is a delight for golfers of all skill levels.
